Getting more ”Bang” for your bucks
By using Murder Mystery Events to market your venue.
By using Murder Mystery Events to market your venue.
These days it isn’t just about Michelin star rating, or a glossy interior, or even about offering a great level of service. Your venue has to start marketing more than its unique selling points (USPS). Because guess what? Nearly every other venue in the world has exactly the same USPs as you!
You have great service? Super. So does everyone else.
You have great food? Show me someone who doesn’t advertise good food?
You have a nice ambiance? Well that’s fantastic too – but if you don’t have any customers your ambiance will just look empty!
Lots of other venues go out of business with all those three every day. What you need to do is maximise on your marketing, without wasting it on advertising spend.
Well, we are living in an event economy. Just look at how many times social media is awash with posts from your friends going places and doing something. The world is hungry for events.
They don’t have to be stupendous razzle dazzle events – a crochet night also works well for the right venue – but whatever you do – you do need to plan a program of events to keep people coming back.
Don’t believe me that just holding regular events will attract customers to your venue?
Then let me explain Valentine’s Day.
No. But year after year hotels and restaurants don’t struggle to sell out tables for two on Valentine’s Day as the day itself is its own “event”. Couples plan to eat out that night.
Valentines Day is just one day in a year. So as a venue how do you attract people at other times?
You can advertise. But do people really look at an advert in a magazine and think – hey – let’s go there? Advertising alone doesn’t generate revenue – there’s no call to action. And creating a special deal won’t necessarily attract diners. No lover ever wants to appear cash sensitive on a date!
If you aren’t there that night, you miss out. And once you have them through your doors, they can then see what a lovely place you have, and if they ever do decide to go out “just because” that event should have created warm and fuzzy feelings about your venue that will lead people to come back.
Planning a timetable of events can be time consuming and risky.
You want the right suppliers and the right sort of events. You also need to take the long view and budget for some losses.
If you plan an event that doesn’t reach breakeven point, then yes, you may have lost, rather than gained money – but treat it as a marketing spend. You’ll get a much bigger Return on Investment (ROI) from running an event than you will ever get from advertising alone. An event half sold – still means your venue is in use, and customers have had first-hand experience of your venue. They won’t get that from a magazine advert! If they’ve visited once, the chances are they’ll come again. So treat it as a long term investment. Once you’ve created an established audience, you’ll be able to sell out every event you run.
Of course, everyone is looking for a way to reduce the number of possible losses. To do that – it becomes critical to find the right suppliers and the right sort of events for your venue.
