Robin Hood Themed Murder Mystery

Robin and his Merry Murder!

Robbing from the rich and giving to the poor may well have earned Robin a warm welcome among the local peasants, but his name is mud at the local castle and Sir Guy of Gisbourne has been given the task of apprehending him.

Celebrating a recent triumph over the rich, Robin and his Merry Men have gathered together the villagers for an impromptu feast in the forest. Maid Marion and her lady in waiting are guests of honour.

However, the feast comes to a rather abrupt halt when Little John arrives and announces the Sheriff of Nottingham is on route. Sir Guy of Gisbourne has been found dead in the forest and Robin is the only suspect.

How do these games kits work?

This format of game is ideal for novice hosts.

This particular game format requires 7 (or 8) cast who can also participate as “detectives” to if wished, use of 1 large room with stage area, and a few easy to obtain prop clues.

This mystery requires very little rehearsal time, and the cast do not need to learn any lengthy back story. Cast can usually manage to perform the short skits after just 30 minutes to an hour run through on the day, or can act “script in hand” throughout the performance.

Two murders occurs during the event. Usually one happens before the first script (and is announced within that script, and one occurs mid way through the evening.

Your guests will play the role of detectives. You can have any number of detectives, your only limit is the size of your room, and confidence of your cast. Performing for large groups over 100 in number, your cast may benefit from added sound support.

The audience will watch 2 fully acted scenes, witness two murders and will be required to solve the case by bartering and exchanging clues between the teams in order to see as much information about the case as possible.

This style of murder mystery usually works best with 40+ guests.

Introducing the suspects

Sheriff of Nottingham – Local law enforcement
The authority figure in Nottingham, the Sherriff is responsible for capturing all outlaws and dealing with any other criminal activities that may arise within the county.

Robin Hood – Heroic outlaw
A heroic outlaw, Robin has charisma, charm and a band of followers that have become like family to him.

Little John – Outlaw
Tall and broad-shouldered, Little John doesn’t exactly live up to his name. While you wouldn’t want to meet him when angered, he’s a good-natured hardworking soul most of the time.

Scarlett Will – A Merry Maid
Feisty and proud, Scarlett Will is out to prove she can do everything as well as a man and she regularly joins the Merry Men during their highway robberies.

Friar Tuck – Local Monk
Round and jolly, Friar Tuck is not a man to miss out on a feast day or new wine offering. Rather fond of his mead, Friar Tuck is definitely the ‘Merry’ part of the Merry Men.

Maid Marion – Lady of the court
Gentle, kind and wonderfully beguiling, Maid Marion is the daughter of a local nobleman and totally besotted with Robin.

Lady Byrde – Lady-in-waiting to Maid Marion
Demure and submissive, Lady Byrde is Maid Marion’s lady-in-waiting. She attracts many an admiring look from the Merry Men.

We had an absolute hoot at last week's Harvest Social at Guiseley Methodist Church, performing 'Robin and his Merry Murders'! We fed and entertained 60+ people, with a three course dinner (cooked by my husband and daughter). We had lots of audience participation, including trumpet fanfare everytime the Sheriff came in on his hobbyhorse, I held up a medieval banner to alert his arrival. And a member of the audience used two coconut shells, monty python style for the horse's hooves noise! I created homemade bows, arrows and quivers. All the clues were printed on brown 'parchment' paper, with a wax seal. They even had feather quill pens to write with. The prizes included a plate of turnips, some (chocolate) 'maundy money' and for first prize, the team all got a homemade Robin Hood hats, but had to stand up and sing 'Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen'! Audience feedback, was that it was the best one yet! The best news of all is that we raised £600 for 'All We Can' charity.

Customise this game

This game can be customised to fit your event for an additional fee.

It’s hard to give “ball park” figures for what different customisations would cost however we’ve attempted to HERE.

Remember… if you just need 1 extra person, or 1 less person, why not have someone play the inspector role?

The inspector can usually be male or female as the “for real” inspector can simply invent a new name for themselves.

Some hosts prefer to play the inspector role as it means they can work on the catering while the round plays out amongst their guests.
