It is the dark ages. St George has finally arrived at Castle Clue to vanquish the castle’s marauding dragon only to discover (much to the King and Queen’s embarrassment) that the Dragon has gone missing and is nowhere to be found!

Fortunately a group of guests has arrived at Castle Clue who have more brains than the residents, and with a little help from Merlin they should be able to solve the mystery!

How do these games kits work?

This format of game is ideal for novice hosts.

This particular game format requires 7 (or 8) cast who can also participate as “detectives” to if wished, use of 1 large room with stage area, and a few easy to obtain prop clues.

This mystery requires very little rehearsal time, and the cast do not need to learn any lengthy back story. Cast can usually manage to perform the short skits after just 30 minutes to an hour run through on the day, or can act “script in hand” throughout the performance.

Two murders occurs during the event. Usually one happens before the first script (and is announced within that script, and one occurs mid way through the evening.

Your guests will play the role of detectives. You can have any number of detectives, your only limit is the size of your room, and confidence of your cast. Performing for large groups over 100 in number, your cast may benefit from added sound support.

The audience will watch 2 fully acted scenes, witness two murders and will be required to solve the case by bartering and exchanging clues between the teams in order to see as much information about the case as possible.

This style of murder mystery usually works best with 40+ guests.

I came across this item while searching for party ideas for my son's 9th birthday, and am delighted I did. The downloaded files gave us everything we needed, including instructions on how to run the mystery games, clues to print out, and even food and decoration suggestions. A benefit of this format was also that they were flexible enough to allow us to alter a few things to better fit in with the space we had available, or reword a few clues to keep the kids out of the cutlery drawers! The games can be printed straight out, or with a little bit of effort and coloured paper and card, you can soon have a pile of impressive looking scales, footprints and scrolls. Also, a couple of queries that we did have were very quickly resolved via very friendly emails from Red-Herring. - We (two adults) ran the party for 8 children aged from 6 to 9 (mix of girls and boys) - and it was well worth the preparation we did in advance (although would have required less advance prep if more adults) - and we both thoroughly enjoyed our roles in the adventure. There was enough variety in the puzzles and events that all the children enjoyed at least part of the adventure - and by getting them to all work as a team rather than against each other, they all felt involved and pleased they had solved the mystery ... unlike a game of musical chairs or pass the parcel where only one person is the winner. One child happily announced at the end, that it was the best Knights-themed party he had ever been too ... although after a confused look crossed his face, he did admit that it was probably also the first. After the last child had gone home, our 6 year old daughter immediately announced she wanted a party like that for her birthday, and set off around the house to replace all the clues so she could play the games again!

We used this mystery for my daughter's 6th birthday party. In total we had 11 children between 4 and 7 at the party. What can I say??? It was a roaring success! The parents of the children who came say their kids have not stopped talking about it yet, and my own daughter loved it so much she wants one EVERY year!!! (My 4 year old son has declared he wants one too...) Her party is the talk of the school and it looks like I'll be coming back! Thanks!

Customise this game

This game can be customised to fit your event for an additional fee.

It’s hard to give “ball park” figures for what different customisations would cost however we’ve attempted to HERE.

Please do contact us for a free quote if you would like any customisations on your game before purchase.

Remember… if you just need 1 extra person, or 1 less person, why not have someone play the inspector role?

The inspector can usually be male or female as the “for real” inspector can simply invent a new name for themselves.

Some hosts prefer to play the inspector role as it means they can work on the catering while the round plays out amongst their guests.
